The
Great Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses more than 521,000 acres in
Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. This international biosphere
is home to more than 4,000 plant species. The Smoky Mountain are
steeper the Rocky Mountains and elevations range from 1,600 feet to 6,643
feet at
Clingman's Dome. Temperatures vary greatly and can
change quickly and without warning. It's not uncommon for it to be warm and
sunny in Gatlinburg while it's cold, windy, and raining just a few
miles away.
