The male (L) is beautifully colored during the mating season, while the female
(R) remains a camouflaged brown. These beautiful ducks lay up to 15 eggs in the
cavities of trees or in nesting boxes, sometimes 60 feet or more from the
ground. They prefer wooded ponds, lakes or rivers, and can be found throughout
most of the eastern United States.

One
way to help attract wood ducks to your property is to place a couple of nest
boxes in the area of ponds or other water sources.
