This is ONLY a guideline!
Laws regarding the use of 2-way radios while hunting varies by state, and
change often. It is up to you to know the laws for your state. The
best rule is not to shoot unless you are sure of the law for the area
you are hunting in.
In many of the states where it illgal to use while hunting, they mean
for the use in broadcasting the location of game. Where "illegal to
hunt with" doe's not always mean you can't have a walkie talkie or
cell phone on you while hunting, it generally means you just can not
use it to tell another hunter where game animals are or aren't.
Again, you need to be aware of the exact law for your state, this is
just an overview of the laws at the time the page was written.
A secondary issue in regards to the use of radios while hunting is
how Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett view "fair chase hunting". The
following comes from the Pope & Young web site:
"The term “Fair Chase” shall NOT include the taking of animals under
the following conditions:
By the use of electronic devices for attracting, locating or pursuing
game or guiding the hunter to such game, or by the use of a bow or
arrow to which any electronic device is attached. "
So, while hunting with the aid of a radio may be perfectly legal in
many states, should you take a record class animal while using a
2-way your trophy may not be eligible for the books,
