Black Mountain in middle Tennessee offers a variety of climbing opportunities ranging from excellent bouldering to short, tough, lead climbs. The rock are mostly short 40 footers but some are very challenging even though they are short. There have been "sport" routes in the past but most of these illegal bolts have been removed and placing of additional bolts is forbidden.

Climbing Routes 
There are about 40 established climbing routes at Black Mountain with very few being bolted routes. Placing additional bolts is absolutely forbidden! Top roping is generally best but there is some lead climbing available for those able to place protection. These routes range in difficulty from an easy 5.5 to extremely difficult 5.12 most are very short routes and there are an unbelievable number of places to boulder.

Directions:
From I-40 take exit #329, Crab Orchard, 10 miles east of Crossville Tennessee. Go south for 1.6 miles to Owl Roost Road, turn left. Continue up the mountain 2.5 miles to a parking area on the right at the base of large tower. 

The rocks are located 100 yards south of the parking area. Walk through the parking lot past the orange barriers. Cross the road following the narrow, paved, cross road for about another 70 yards, you will start to see the rocks on the right.
