The Garter snake is the most
widely distributed snake in North America. There are a variety of subspecies
but most are easily recognizable by the yellow stripes. They mate primarily
in the spring but occasionally in the fall further North. 5-85 live young
are born in June - October, again the further North, the later the birth.
The young average 7", and will mature in approximately 2 years. Garter Snakes
are frequently kept as pets, and breed easily in captivity. |
