Southern Leopard Frog

Common Name: Southern Leopard Frog
Scientific Name: Rana sphenocephala
Habitat: Freshwater, moist vegitation
Length: adults up to 5"
Diet: Insects
The Southern Leopard Frog is fairly common in Tennessee. They are primarily nocturnal and can be found near any freshwater source or hunting in nearby moist vegetation. During the day they like to hide in tall grass or reeds, generally on the sunny bank. This picture was taken in early September in Coffee county Tennessee.
