Mount Mitchell State Park encompasses 1,855 acres that surround the highest point in North Carolina and the highest point in North America east of the Mississippi river. Mount Mitchell Park was established in 1915 as North Carolinas first State Park.

Camping
Mount Mitchell has a family friendly campground with 9 tent camp sites. Each site has a grill and picnic table and there are restrooms (no showers). there is also backcountry camping in the surrounding Pisgah National Forest.
