Opening Day

A Poem by Byron Hoot

I did not need the alarm clock.
It is hunting season and something inside me knows the time.

That is how it is when what you want to do is inside you.
What has meaning, just now, is getting up, making coffee, checking off the list etched in my heart

And closing the door quietly behind me,
Matching my heartsteps with my footsteps once again.
