I had been trying to put my two girls on some good shad and striper
fishing for a couple weeks. We would go to the Roanoke in Weldon, NC
whenever possible and there was always something with the weather that
turned the fishing off while we were there. The week before this photo, we
had made a family trip to the Outer Banks for a surf fishing tournament.
Once again, weather turned bad and we caught nothing. Good news is that
all four of us (me, wife, and both kids) won door prizes. Aria (youngest -
4.5) got a gift certificate to a local tackle shop and wanted her own
fishing pole. She decided on this bright yellow spinning combo.
By the following Friday she was driving me crazy to use her pole, so we
made one more trip to the Roanoke. I had been earlier in the week and done
very well on stripers so I figured there was a chance. We put out her pole
first and before we could get a second one out, line starts stripping out.
She grabs the pole and a couple minutes later lands her first striper and
her first solo catch. Seconds after this pict was taken, Melody's rod goes
off and she lands a nice one as well. Between the 2 kids and the wife,
they had 7 fish in the boat before I could get my line in the water.
